Big Bear finished this kitchen remodel in North Olmsted, OH for our new clients. Their main objective was to make better use of their space and create more storage and an open floorplan.
Synopsis of kitchen remodel in North Olmsted, OH
Remodel kitchen by removing bearing wall between kitchen and living room to make better use of their space and to enlarge their kitchen. This included the replacement of Cabinets, Countertops, Flooring, Lighting, Paint, Backsplash tile, Baseboards and window casing, Appliances
Assessment:
• Engineer to examine bearing wall and calculate beam size to make home structurally sound.
• Measure the dimensions of the bearing wall and calculate the support posts needed
• Call out necessary fasteners and joist hangers
Remove the bearing wall and install beam:
• Start by demolishing the kitchen and living room to expose studs.
• Build temporary walls on either side of the bearing wall for necessary support.
• Remove the bearing wall.
• Create a pocket for the support posts on either side of the wall.
• Install beam to sit on support posts.
• Reinforce beam with necessary joist hangers and fasteners.
• Remove temporary walls on either side of beam.
Insulation and Drywall:
• Install insulation on exterior walls.
• Hang and tape drywall.
• Apply 1st, 2nd and final coat of mud then sand and prime drywall.
• Apply 2 coats of paint to ceiling and walls.
Cabinets, Countertops and Backsplash:
• Install upper perimeter cabinets and fillers by using a laser level to ensure cabinets are level.
• Install base cabinets, pantry and fillers.
• Fabricate and install custom range hood.
• Install island cabinets and island legs.
• Install perimeter and island countertops.
• Tile backsplash.
Flooring and Trim:
• After existing flooring has been demolished, install plywood.
• Apply ardex in any low spots to ensure a level floor.
• Install vinyl plank flooring.
• Install baseboard, cabinet toe-kick and shoe molding throughout new kitchen
• Install transitions wherever needed.
Electrical:
• Install 3 USB outlets.
• Install 2 pendant lights
• Install undercabinet lighting and 7 can lights.
Appliances:
• Plumb sink and install faucet and disposal.
• Install dishwasher and test.
• Install refrigerator and water line.
• Install range and microwave
City Inspections:
• Rough inspections were completed during the remodeling process.
• City inspectors came out to look at the electrical re-wiring, rough plumbing work and framing.
• Final inspections were competed after the kitchen remodel.
• City inspectors came out to ensure all electrical was in working order, all appliances were functioning, plumbing fixtures worked properly and the overall project was complete.
